Disposal

Disposal of fireworks

Dispose of waste yourself — this is how it’s done safely

  1. After a misfire, wait at least 20 minutes before taking a closer look at the firework. If you're unsure, wait even longer.

  2. Place unignited or defective items completely into a bucket or large container of water and let them soak for at least 15 to 30 minutes. If you're unsure, soak the items in water for 24 hours to ensure the powder is thoroughly saturated.

  3. Then drain the contents, double-bag them in tight plastic bags, and dispose of them with general waste. Fireworks debris should not be disposed of in the waste paper or recycling bins.

  4. Do not ignite or burn anything yourself. Do not open damaged items or attempt to repair misfired fireworks.

Disposal of helium cylinders

Dispose of it yourself — empty and pretreat safely

  1. Place the cylinder in a well-ventilated area. Open the valve fully and hold the outlet until no more gas escapes.

  2. Many disposable bottles have a marked spot at the top where you can carefully poke a hole with a pointed object once the bottle is completely empty. This will permanently depressurize it.

  3. In many communities, empty and opened bottles can be disposed of as metal at recycling centers or in metal collections. Check your community's regulations beforehand.

When you should come to us

If you're unsure whether the bottle is truly empty, or if it's a larger or defective bottle, simply bring it to us. We'll arrange for safe disposal or return.
